COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLB (Hons) Law with Criminology degree offers a unique and dynamic combination of legal education and criminological insight, providing students with a well-rounded understanding of the law and its operation within the criminal justice system. In the foundation year, students are introduced to core legal methods, key legal concepts, and communication skills essential for undergraduate study, alongside modules such as Crime, Justice, and Surveillance, and Globalisation and Society, which encourage critical thinking about law in a broader context. As the course progresses, students deepen their legal knowledge through core modules such as Contract Law, Tort Law, Equity and Trusts, Land Law, and Criminal Law, while also exploring contemporary criminological topics including policing, cybercrime, and human rights. Criminology modules like Contemporary Issues and Policing and Society provide critical perspectives on crime, justice, and social control. A key feature of this course is the Mental Wealth program, which enhances employability by focusing on professional skills development such as teamwork, leadership, communication, and ethical awareness. Students apply their learning in practical ways through group projects addressing real-world issues such as hate crime or youth engagement. By year three, students complete advanced modules that bring together their legal and criminological training, supported by experiential learning opportunities including work placements and community-based projects. The course not only prepares students for professional careers in law, policing, or the justice sector, but also fosters a deep understanding of how structural factors like inequality and discrimination intersect with legal systems. Graduates are equipped with analytical, research, and advocacy skills, as well as a critical awareness of law’s role in society, making them well-prepared for careers that demand both legal expertise and a commitment to justice.
