COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLB (Hons) Business Law degree at the University of East London offers a comprehensive legal education with a unique commercial focus, making it ideal for those looking to combine legal expertise with business acumen. From the first year, students engage in compulsory modules that build a solid foundation in key areas of English law, such as contract, public, criminal, and land law, alongside legal skills and the English legal system. Business law is integrated early, setting the tone for the degree’s commercial orientation. The course includes opportunities for hands-on learning through volunteering at the Legal Advice Centre and placements with local law firms. In the second year, students deepen their understanding through modules on tort law, human rights, equity and trusts, and further business-related subjects. Mental Wealth modules develop employability and professional competencies throughout the program. A distinctive feature of this degree is the flexibility to choose business-oriented modules in both the second and third years—an option unique among UEL’s qualifying law degrees. In the final year, students complete a core module in equity and trusts and can tailor their studies through a range of optional modules, including commercial law, company law, client practice, civil and criminal litigation, and others related to finance, ethics, and consultancy. Students who take both client practice and litigation can qualify for the Higher Diploma in Paralegal Practice, enhancing their career prospects. The course balances academic depth with practical training and industry engagement, preparing graduates for a variety of career paths such as solicitors, barristers, in-house counsel, or legal advisors in commercial sectors. It is currently undergoing revalidation to ensure the content remains aligned with the latest developments in law and business.
