COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sports Therapy program at UEL offers a comprehensive and progressive curriculum that prepares students for a career in sports injury management, rehabilitation, and performance enhancement. The foundation year introduces key principles in anatomy, physiology, physical and psychological wellbeing, academic writing, coaching, and career development, providing a strong base for progression. In the first year of the degree, students build on this knowledge by developing practical skills in musculoskeletal assessment, injury management, soft tissue therapy, and clinical reasoning, all within the framework of a biopsychosocial approach. Year two deepens clinical expertise through modules in trauma management, peripheral mobilisation, biomechanics, and rehabilitation. Students also gain skills in physiological and nutritional assessment, research design, and evidence-based practice. By the final year, the program shifts focus to advanced clinical skills, including spinal rehabilitation and manipulation, while also emphasising person-centred care. Students gain extensive hands-on experience in the UEL Sports Injury Clinic and through external placements. The final year also includes a research project that allows students to explore a topic relevant to sports therapy and communicate findings to varied audiences. Throughout the course, Mental Wealth modules support the development of professional, academic, and employability skills. The program integrates biological, psychological, and social aspects of therapy to ensure graduates are well-rounded professionals. With a balance of theory, hands-on learning, and real-world application, the degree equips students with the competence and confidence to succeed as graduate sports therapists in diverse settings.
