COURSE CURRICULUM

In the Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management BSc (Hons) program, students develop a well-rounded skill set through progressive, industry-focused modules designed to prepare them for a successful career in construction and project management. The first year builds foundational knowledge through modules like Construction Technology, Land and Construction Surveying, and Building Science and Materials. These help students understand construction methods, material performance, surveying practices, and the environmental impact of construction. Analytical Skills in Built Environment and The Built Environment modules equip students with mathematical and digital tools, as well as insights into professional roles and infrastructure development. As students move into the second year, the focus shifts toward applying this knowledge in practical contexts. Modules such as Contract Procedures, Tendering, Estimating and Cost Control, and Construction Planning and Production develop competencies in legal frameworks, budgeting, scheduling, and procurement. The Introduction to Building Measurement module provides technical training on producing accurate cost documentation and bills of quantities. In the final year, students sharpen their commercial, managerial, and ethical skills. Core modules such as Commercial and Value Management and Quantity Surveying Practice delve into cost control, value engineering, and real-world surveying practices throughout the project lifecycle. Project Management explores leadership, stakeholder management, and delivery strategies. The Capstone Project enables students to consolidate and demonstrate their learning through independent research, while Mental Wealth: Professional Life encourages reflective development and interdisciplinary collaboration. The course’s structure ensures that graduates leave not only with technical knowledge but also with strategic thinking, digital proficiency, and industry insight, essential for a career in quantity surveying or commercial management within a rapidly evolving construction industry.
