COURSE CURRICULUM

The extended Economics foundation course at the University of East London is designed for students who do not meet the standard entry requirements but are eager to pursue a degree in economics. During the foundation year, students develop core academic and literacy skills, gaining the tools needed to succeed at university level. Modules such as Developing Academic Skills and Developing Academic Literacy focus on writing, research, and critical thinking, preparing students to engage effectively with academic content. Mental Wealth: Employability in a Changing World introduces students to the soft skills and personal development required to navigate the modern job market. Business-focused modules like Inside Business and The Global Business Enterprise provide a solid introduction to organisational structures and global economic environments. Students also benefit from real-world experience through the Connecting to Business and Employment through Volunteering module, which supports skill development and networking in a practical setting.Upon successful completion of the foundation year, students enter Year 1 of the BSc Economics degree, where they explore core economic subjects including microeconomics, macroeconomics, and international economics. Modules in business law, statistics, accounting, and organisational behaviour ensure that students gain a multidisciplinary perspective on economic activity. In Year 2, students build on this knowledge through intermediate-level microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics, with further emphasis on financial and international economics. The program also includes employability-focused modules like Mental Wealth 2 to enhance professional readiness. In the final year, students deepen their expertise through advanced modules such as Behavioural Economics and Applied Econometrics with Programming. The Applied Economics Project allows students to engage in independent research, while International Political Economy and Corporate Social Responsibility and Ethics broaden their understanding of global and ethical issues in economics. The program concludes with a consultancy-based module that prepares students for real-world business challenges, equipping them with the skills and experience necessary for a successful career in economics or related fields.
