The Computing for Business BSc (Hons) foundation year provides an essential introduction to computing, mathematics, and business information systems. It is designed to equip students with both foundational and advanced skills needed for success in the rapidly evolving intersection of technology and business. The Level 4 Primers module introduces key concepts such as decomposition in computer science, laying the groundwork for more advanced study in software development, cyber security, and computer systems.Mathematics plays a crucial role in computer science and business information systems, with modules such as Applied Maths ensuring students are equipped with the necessary mathematical knowledge for success. The Introduction to Computing module further solidifies understanding by covering computing principles, hardware and software fundamentals, and key problem-solving techniques.The Business Information Systems module focuses on the design and development of information systems, including security considerations. As students progress, they will explore topics like Information Systems Modelling and Design, Software Development, Web Technologies, and Maths for Computing, all of which are fundamental to understanding and applying computing in business contexts.By the second year, students gain further technical expertise in areas like Database Systems, Business Intelligence Analysis, Web and Mobile App Development, and Cyber Security. The focus is on developing both technical skills and an understanding of the strategic role of information systems in organisations. These skills are further enhanced through the Mental Wealth; Professional Life 2 (Computing in Practice) module, which prepares students for future career roles in IT, computing, or cyber security sectors.In the final year, students engage in more advanced modules, such as Business Continuity Planning, Project Management, Enterprise Architecture and Cloud Computing, and Advanced Topics in Business Computing. These modules ensure students are equipped with cutting-edge knowledge and practical expertise.
