COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Surveying and Mapping Sciences program provides a comprehensive, practice-led education in land, marine, and geospatial surveying. In the first year, students build a foundation in construction, mapping, and surveying principles through modules like Land and Construction Surveying, GIS & Mapping, and Construction Technology. These develop both practical and analytical skills, preparing students for more complex surveying tasks. The second year focuses on more advanced topics, including Engineering Surveying, 3D Data Modelling, and GNSS systems, offering hands-on experience and industry relevance. Modules such as Ground Engineering and Contract Procedures add depth by linking geotechnical knowledge with legal and contractual frameworks. A key feature is the Employment Internship, allowing students to apply theory in real-world contexts. In the final year, students engage in specialised topics like Sea Surveying and Land Law and Registration, expanding their expertise to offshore and cadastral systems. The Capstone Project encourages independent research, tying together learning across the program. Professional development is emphasized throughout the three years via the Mental Wealth modules, which cultivate leadership, digital proficiency, and ethical awareness, preparing students for the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The course also highlights sustainability, data accuracy, and the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration.
