COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sports Therapy program at UEL provides students with a comprehensive education and practical experience necessary for a successful career in sports therapy. In the first year, students are introduced to key concepts such as musculoskeletal anatomy, injury management, and soft tissue techniques. They develop essential clinical skills in injury assessment, focusing on the lower and upper limbs, and gain hands-on experience with therapeutic practices like massage and cryotherapy. Core modules in anatomy, physiology, and sports injuries build the foundation for further study.In the second year, students deepen their knowledge with advanced topics such as sports trauma management, rehabilitation techniques, and biomechanics for injury prevention. They explore the principles of rehabilitation, learning how to design recovery plans for injured athletes. Research methods and critical thinking are emphasized through modules like Research Methods & Design, preparing students for evidence-based practice. Clinical skills are honed through the study of peripheral assessment and mobilization techniques, enhancing students' ability to diagnose and manage musculoskeletal injuries effectively.The third year focuses on advanced clinical skills and professional preparation. Students learn spinal assessment and manipulation techniques, applying their knowledge of soft tissue therapy to spinal rehabilitation. The Independent Research Project allows students to explore an applied topic under academic supervision, while the Clinical Practice, Work Placement, and Employability module offers real-world experience in UEL’s Sports Injury Clinic and external placements. Throughout the program, a person-centred healthcare approach is emphasized, ensuring that students develop a holistic understanding of patient care. Graduates are equipped with the clinical expertise, professional skills, and critical thinking abilities needed to excel in the field of sports therapy.
