COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sport, Physical Education and Development program offers a rich and structured journey through three years of academic and practical study. In the first year, students build a solid foundation in understanding the human body, sports psychology, and key coaching principles. Core modules such as Anatomy & Physiology for Sport, Coaching Principles, and Psychological Aspects of Sport equip learners with insights into human performance, while others like Sports Leadership & Management and Development of Sport explore the broader contexts of sport’s evolution and organizational dynamics. The year also emphasizes academic and communication skills essential for professional success. In the second year, the focus shifts toward teaching and coaching, inclusive practices, and sociocultural issues in sport. Modules like Inclusion in Youth Sport & PE and Disability, Sport and PE promote an understanding of equity and diversity, while Sport & PE Policy and Community Sport Development provide knowledge about policy and practical community engagement. Students also begin to engage with research methods and design, preparing for more advanced projects. By the third year, the emphasis is on applying knowledge in real-world contexts. Students undertake either an Applied or Independent Research Project, addressing issues in sport and exercise through academic inquiry. Practical experience is gained through placements with organizations such as West Ham United or local schools. Other modules such as Applied Teaching Practice and Developing the Healthy Child explore the link between education and sport, while Disability, Sport & Society challenges students to examine systemic inequalities. Finally, the Work Placement and Education & Development in Sport modules guide students through career planning and professional preparation. Overall, the program offers a blend of academic rigor, practical experience, and critical reflection aimed at preparing students to be inclusive, effective professionals in sport, education, and community settings.
