This sport and exercise science course offers a comprehensive, multidisciplinary foundation that explores the essential scientific disciplines underpinning athletic performance and physical well-being. Starting with a shared first year alongside students from Sports Coaching and Sport, Physical Education and Development, the course provides the flexibility to switch pathways depending on your developing interests. In the first year, you’ll build key academic and professional skills, study human anatomy and physiology, and develop a foundational understanding of coaching, sport history, biomechanics, and sport psychology. These modules ensure you’re equipped with both the theoretical knowledge and practical abilities necessary for future employment or further study. In the second year, your learning deepens with more advanced modules in sport and exercise psychology, biomechanics, and physiology, including practical laboratory work. You’ll explore the psychological and physiological aspects of performance and health, while also gaining research skills relevant to solving real-world sport-related problems. Optional modules allow you to tailor your degree toward your specific interests, such as inclusion in sport or coaching practices. By the final year, you’ll specialise further, with opportunities to engage in independent or applied research projects. These allow you to investigate real-world sport science issues under academic supervision, while core modules in applied sport psychology, advanced physiology, and biomechanics build the knowledge and technical experience needed in the industry. The use of cutting-edge equipment like 3D motion capture, force plates, and electromyography ensures hands-on experience with the latest sport science technologies.
