COURSE CURRICULUM
The Public Health degree is an interdisciplinary program that equips students with the knowledge and skills to address health challenges at individual, community, and population levels. The course begins with a strong foundation in the UK healthcare system, the history and development of public health, and epidemiology, the core science of studying patterns and causes of health and disease. Students explore key concepts through modules such as Foundations of Public Health, Anthropology of Health, and Promoting Health Together, which introduce cultural, social, and communication perspectives on health. From the outset, the degree incorporates professional development and practical training, including placements in local authorities and community organisations. As students progress, they engage with complex public health topics such as global health systems, sustainability, health protection, policy development, and contemporary health challenges. Practical modules develop key research and statistical skills, and students learn how to evaluate and design interventions using evidence-based approaches. The program also emphasizes community engagement through participatory methods that prioritise empowerment and inclusivity. In the final year, students lead their own research projects, tackling real-world health issues and applying public health principles in practice. Modules such as Public Health Ethics and Law, Health Economics, and Applied Public Health prepare students for the ethical, financial, and professional responsibilities of public health work. Mental Wealth modules, embedded throughout the course, ensure students develop leadership, teamwork, emotional intelligence, and resilience. By graduation, students are equipped with a wide-ranging skill set and practical experience that supports career readiness in diverse public health roles. These include data analysis, health promotion, policy development, and community-based work in both UK and international contexts. The course’s focus on social justice, cultural competence, and evidence-informed practice prepares graduates to contribute meaningfully to improving health outcomes and reducing health inequalities.
