COURSE CURRICULUM

Occupational therapy is a dynamic and rewarding healthcare profession focused on enabling individuals to live meaningful and independent lives. This degree equips students with the knowledge and practical experience needed to support people of all ages who may be experiencing physical, cognitive, or mental health challenges. In the first year, students explore human development, health, and occupation through modules such as Structure and Function of the Human Body, and Occupational Therapy: Engagement and Well-being. These foundational modules introduce students to anatomy, physiology, and the relationship between health conditions and daily activities. Students also begin hands-on practice through their first placement, gaining insight into real-world healthcare environments. In the second year, the course deepens clinical reasoning and therapeutic skills. Students engage in evidence-based practice and leadership modules, while expanding their assessment and intervention abilities. Key modules such as Achieving Best Practice in Occupational Therapy and Occupational Performance, Engagement and Well-being allow students to develop their professional identity and understand the unique contribution of occupational therapy. A focus on research methods helps students evaluate data and apply research findings to practice. Two additional placements provide further experience working in diverse teams and settings. In the final year, students prepare for independent professional practice. Modules such as Transition to Professional Practice and Applied Research support students in developing confidence, leadership, and readiness for employment. Placements in this year focus on clinical reasoning, reflective practice, and delivering complex interventions. The Enterprise and Innovation module encourages students to think creatively and collaboratively, preparing them for work in a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape. Graduates of this program are ready to register as occupational therapists, with the practical skills, theoretical knowledge, and professional insight to make a lasting difference in people’s lives. They are prepared to work in hospitals, communities, schools, and other health and social care settings.
