COURSE CURRICULUM

The Medical Physiology BSc (Hons) program provides a thorough understanding of human biology, physiology, and the essential scientific principles needed for a career in medical physiology or related fields. In the first year, students focus on foundational knowledge, including human anatomy, biochemistry, and microbiology, alongside the development of essential academic skills. Modules such as Professional Practice in Science prepare students for higher education by teaching transferable skills in academic writing, laboratory techniques, and personal development. Students also gain insights into the structure and function of cells and tissues, offering a solid base for further study in human biology and health sciences.In the second year, the focus shifts to more advanced topics, such as infection and immunity, physiological regulation, and pharmacology. Students deepen their understanding of how diseases affect the human body and the immune system's role in defense. They also learn about the physiological systems, including the cardiovascular, respiratory, and reproductive systems, and acquire practical skills in monitoring and analyzing physiological data. The curriculum also covers the fundamentals of drug action and pharmacology, reinforcing the importance of understanding how medicines interact with the body.The final year of the program allows students to specialize in clinical physiology and pathology, including modules in cellular pathology, clinical physiology, and applied physiology. These modules focus on diagnosing diseases, monitoring health, and using physiological techniques to assess bodily functions. The capstone project is a research-based module where students conduct an independent research project and develop a career enhancement portfolio to prepare for future employment. Throughout the degree, students gain practical experience in laboratory settings, preparing them for a wide range of careers in medical physiology, clinical research, or further study.
