COURSE CURRICULUM

The Cyber Security degree provides students with a strong foundation in computing and cyber security, preparing them to face real-world challenges in protecting digital systems and data. In the first year, students develop essential knowledge in areas such as programming, information systems design, and computer systems through modules like Software Development, Maths for Computing, Web Technologies, and Information Systems Modelling and Design. These modules offer hands-on experience and practical learning, while also introducing the legal, social, and ethical considerations in computing. The Mental Wealth: Professional Life 1 module helps students develop the soft skills and reflective abilities needed for career readiness, teamwork, and communication. In the second year, the course builds on these foundations with more advanced topics including Cyber Security, Systems Administration, and Data Communications and Networks. Students also study Database Systems and Information Systems Strategy and Management, deepening their understanding of data, infrastructure, and strategic IT planning. Mental Wealth: Professional Life 2 supports professional growth through practical experiences, cognitive skill development, and industry-focused preparation. In the final year, students engage in deeper exploration of key industry areas, including Business Continuity Planning, Enterprise Architecture and Cloud Computing, and Advanced Topics in Cyber Security and Networks. These modules expose students to the latest tools, frameworks, and practices used in the field. The final-year individual project, part of the Mental Wealth: Professional Life 3 module, allows students to demonstrate their technical expertise and problem-solving abilities through real-world application. Additional study in Project Management equips students with skills in planning, execution, and delivery of IT projects. By the end of the course, graduates are not only equipped with technical skills in cyber security, programming, and systems management, but also with the professional and personal development needed to succeed in a wide range of IT and cyber-related careers.
