The Product Design Engineering program begins with a foundation year that develops essential skills across six core modules. These include mathematics, computing, physical and engineering sciences, and professional development. The Mental Wealth module fosters independent learning and self-reflection for academic and career success, while modules in mathematics and physics provide the analytical and scientific background required for engineering studies. In the first academic year, students gain a solid grounding in manufacturing and engineering principles through lectures, labs, and workshops. Modules such as Engineering Principles, Materials, Mechanics, and Thermofluids build technical competence, while Applied Mathematics and Computing enhance problem-solving capabilities. Mental Wealth continues to support personal development and awareness of engineering's social impact. In the second year, students deepen their knowledge and start applying it to real-world scenarios. Modules like Engineering Design and Analysis, Applied Electronics, and Quality Engineering build professional capabilities, and students engage in teamwork and feasibility studies through the Mental Wealth module. Environmental and interdisciplinary design is emphasized through Design Integration and group projects. A sandwich placement opportunity also allows for direct industry engagement. In the final year, the program focuses on advanced skills and independent research. Students undertake a Capstone Project to apply and demonstrate their learning in a practical investigation. They explore cutting-edge topics such as mechatronic systems, advanced manufacturing, and sustainable design. The Mental Wealth module prepares students for leadership in the digital and ethical landscape of modern engineering. Design modules help students integrate environmental, cultural, and technical considerations into their projects. By graduation, students are equipped to generate complex design solutions, use industry-standard CAD software, and prototype using both traditional and digital tools. This comprehensive program ensures that graduates are professionally ready, technically capable, and prepared for careers or further study in design and engineering.
