COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng (Hons) Mechatronics and Computer Systems Engineering course is designed to prepare students for the demands of modern engineering industries by combining mechanical, electrical, electronic, and computer systems engineering. The program begins with an Engineering Foundation Year, where students are introduced to core subjects such as mathematics, physics, computing, and design. This foundation ensures students develop strong analytical, problem-solving, and academic skills that will support their future studies. As students progress into the main degree, they explore a wide range of engineering topics including engineering materials, mechanical principles, AC circuits, and electronic systems. Applied mathematics and computing are key components, providing essential tools for modelling, design, and system analysis. In the second year, students deepen their technical knowledge through modules such as dynamics and control, digital communications, applied electronics, and programming. These modules are structured to give a balance of theory and practical application, ensuring students understand how complex mechatronic systems operate and are developed. The course also includes modules on artificial intelligence and systems integration, which reflect current trends and technological developments within the industry. Professional and personal development is embedded throughout the program in the Mental Wealth modules. These help students develop communication, leadership, teamwork, and project management skills while also addressing digital innovation, ethics, and sustainability. In the final year, students undertake a capstone project that demonstrates their ability to conduct research, apply engineering principles, and develop practical solutions. The project, combined with advanced modules like design of mechatronics systems and advanced control, prepares students for careers in robotics, automation, manufacturing, and related fields. Graduates leave the course with the skills and knowledge needed to progress toward Chartered Engineer status and thrive in a wide range of technical and professional roles within the evolving world of engineering.
