COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 1 of the BA (Hons) Interior Architecture program, students begin by developing essential skills in spatial design. They explore materials, techniques, and representation methods through a combination of hands-on projects and experimentation. This allows students to create imaginative yet technically sound proposals, considering both aesthetic appeal and practical needs. The curriculum fosters critical thinking, research abilities, and effective communication, preparing students to express and refine their design ideas. The module Design Investigation 1 introduces students to the processes involved in spatial design, such as model making, sketching, and producing various types of visual representations. This early exposure helps students develop a deeper understanding of how to use materials and media to generate ideas. The module also encourages trial and error, enabling students to learn from their mistakes and build confidence. In parallel, Design Resolution 1 allows students to apply their knowledge in real-world scenarios, developing design proposals that address specific sites and briefs. This module focuses on improving students' abilities to use a variety of communication methods to present their designs. Alongside technical design skills, the Material Integration 1 module teaches students about the use of different materials, ensuring that their designs are spatially and materially coherent. The Mental Wealth: Professional Life 1 module plays a crucial role in personal development, helping students understand the psychological and physical aspects necessary for career progression. By engaging in self-reflection and feedback, students learn how to enhance their professional skills and prepare for the demands of the industry.In Year 2, students build on their foundation by delving deeper into user needs, site context, and material application. Modules such as Design Investigation 2 and Design Resolution 2 focus on refining students' design processes, pushing them to consider environmental and social factors in their work. This year prepares them for more complex design challenges and lays the groundwork for future professional practice.
