COURSE CURRICULUM

The game design course offers a comprehensive, progressive curriculum that prepares students for a successful career in the games industry. In the first year, students are introduced to the core areas of game development: design, art, and programming. They learn fundamental design principles, scripting with languages like C#, and experience collaborative, studio-style work environments. Modules in this year focus on essential skills such as documenting game ideas, prototyping, developing 2D/3D art assets, and writing basic code using programming paradigms. The second year builds on this foundation, allowing students to specialise in areas like level, narrative, or systems design while continuing to work in team-based studio simulations. Students deepen their understanding of game concept prototyping and explore how to create engaging, interactive experiences. Emphasis is placed on multidisciplinary collaboration, managing real-world projects using agile methods, and developing a personal online presence for employability. The final year culminates in a major self-directed project aligned with each student's area of interest. Students can choose between a practical game project or a research dissertation, both of which are supported through supervision and peer feedback. They also complete portfolio modules aimed at showcasing their skills for future job opportunities. Final studio modules focus on polishing and publishing a medium-scale game project on a live platform, demonstrating the ability to take a game from concept to market. Across all three years, students consistently work in simulated studio settings, mirroring professional industry environments. These experiences cultivate both technical abilities and soft skills such as communication, teamwork, and project management. By the end of the program, students will have a portfolio of completed projects, real-world experience in game production, and a strong foundation in game design theory and practice, equipping them for diverse roles in the dynamic field of game development.
