The filmmaking degree program offers a comprehensive learning journey, blending theoretical knowledge with practical filmmaking skills. In the first year, students focus on building foundational skills through modules like Academic Development, which cultivates reflective abilities and self-awareness necessary for personal growth and academic success. The Social Media Project module introduces students to content creation for social platforms, encouraging research, production, and evaluation. Students also explore narrative theory and creativity, learning how to create compelling stories across various media forms, while the Group Film Project module allows them to work collaboratively on short films. These foundational modules help students refine their craft and understand the technical aspects of filmmaking. In the second year, the focus shifts to more advanced media production. Students engage with experimental media production in the Production Lab 2 module, while Advanced Storytelling deepens their narrative skills, particularly in exploring themes of identity within contemporary culture. The Critical Theory module provides a strong theoretical foundation, exploring various film theories, including psychoanalytic and feminist approaches. Students also delve into European and World Cinemas, broadening their understanding of global cinematic movements. Practical experience through live project briefs and internships further enhances their skills and employability. In the final year, students engage with Professional Practice to develop self-promotion and branding strategies, preparing them for the competitive creative industries. The Final Project allows students to showcase their work, whether through a practice-based project or dissertation, reflecting their growth throughout the course. Optional modules like Horror and Science Fiction or Transmedia and Digital Futures offer students opportunities to specialize and deepen their expertise in specific areas of film and media production, preparing them for a successful career in the industry.
