COURSE CURRICULUM

In the BA (Hons) Product Design program, students embark on a three-year journey designed to build and refine core design competencies through practical, technical, and theoretical learning. In the first year, the focus is on foundational principles, material exploration, spatial awareness, and visual communication. Students are introduced to various materials, fabrication techniques, and technical drawing skills, while engaging in critical thinking and research. Modules such as Design Investigation, Material Integration, and Design Resolution equip students with the ability to connect materials with design concepts and apply them to spatial challenges. The second year advances students' understanding of user-centred and environmentally responsive design. Through more complex projects, students develop their creative processes, engage in collaborative practice, and refine their ability to respond to social, cultural, and technical contexts. Design Integration introduces sustainable strategies, while modules like History and Theory deepen critical awareness. The Mental Wealth program continues across all years, enhancing personal and professional growth by building emotional intelligence, resilience, and workplace readiness. In the final year, students apply advanced design thinking and technical knowledge to produce innovative, coherent, and socially conscious projects. Design modules challenge them to reflect critically, integrate prior learning, and produce high-quality final outputs that demonstrate readiness for industry or further study. The final year also includes in-depth research through History and Theory, culminating in an extended essay or dissertation. Throughout the course, students benefit from state-of-the-art workshops, a wide range of fabrication technologies, and opportunities for live projects and industry engagement. With a balance of independent learning and collaborative experiences, the program prepares graduates to enter diverse areas of design with confidence, creativity, and a strong professional foundation.
