COURSE CURRICULUM

In the BA Music Technology and Production degree, you’ll progressively develop advanced technical, creative, and collaborative skills across three years of study, building towards a career in music, sound design, or media production. In the first year, you’ll gain core knowledge through modules such as Music Technology and Production Technique, focusing on studio skills, sound production, and interdisciplinary teamwork. You’ll participate in live projects, learning to apply theory in collaborative environments through modules like Collaboration 1 and Public Project 1. The Mental Wealth module supports your development of personal and professional skills like emotional intelligence, teamwork, and self-care, essential for long-term career success. In year two, you’ll deepen your specialism in areas such as sound design, multimedia composition, and performance technologies through Craft modules, while taking part in external-facing projects via Public Project 2 and Collaboration 2. These experiences challenge you to consider social, cultural, and ethical contexts in your work, strengthening your readiness for industry. You’ll also step into production roles in FUEL, the university’s in-house microbusiness, gaining real-world experience. In your final year, your focus shifts to innovation and entrepreneurship. You’ll lead your own large-scale interdisciplinary project, combining practice and research with support from expert staff. Modules like Advanced Practice and Enterprise, along with the Final Project sequence, will help you hone your artistic identity and build a professional-grade portfolio. You’ll also mentor junior students and manage FUEL events, reinforcing leadership and team management capabilities. Throughout all stages of the program, you’ll work with students from other creative disciplines such as games, film, and performance, mirroring industry collaboration. By the time you graduate, you’ll be fully prepared to enter the creative sector, equipped with a body of original work, relevant industry experience, and the critical and reflective thinking needed to thrive.
