COURSE CURRICULUM

In the BA (Hons) Illustration program, you’ll build your creative identity across three years of immersive, practical, and research-based study. In your first year, you’ll lay the foundation for your artistic development, engaging in modules that explore creative practice, art history, and theory. You’ll learn through experimentation, critique, and collaborative workshops, gaining confidence in a wide range of media and techniques. Modules such as Practice 1 and Experimentation and Application 1A and 1B will help you explore your interests, while Contextual Studies and Research into Practice 1 build the academic skills necessary for critical reflection. Professional Life 1 (Mental Wealth) begins the journey of self-awareness and emotional intelligence, essential for your career development. In your second year, you will start to define your unique voice as an illustrator. You’ll refine your conceptual understanding and deepen your technical skills through modules like Advanced Practice and Advanced Experimentation and Applications. You’ll also begin engaging with real-world scenarios through live briefs and collaborative work. The Mental Wealth module at this stage pushes your professional competencies further, preparing you for leadership and creative problem-solving. Contextual and theoretical studies continue to support and inform your practical projects, enhancing your ability to position your work within the broader cultural and societal landscape. In the final year, you’ll work independently on major projects that represent your personal vision and professional direction. You’ll lead and manage creative teams, mentor peers, and showcase your work publicly at a degree exhibition. Core modules like Independent Major Project and Research into Practice help you integrate research with practice and prepare for postgraduate study or professional life. Throughout the course, Mental Wealth development ensures you're not just creatively capable but emotionally and cognitively prepared for the demands of the industry.
