The BA (Hons) Illustration and Animation degree is a well-rounded, multidisciplinary program that prepares students for the evolving demands of the creative industries. In the first year, students build foundational skills in illustration and animation through modules like Practice 1, Experimentation and Application, and Research into Practice. These modules emphasize hands-on learning, creative exploration, and the development of a visual language using both analogue and digital tools. Contextual Studies supports this by encouraging critical thinking and historical awareness, while Professional Life 1 introduces key employability skills such as adaptability and self-awareness.In the second year, the program advances students' creative and technical abilities. Advanced Practice and Advanced Experimentation and Applications focus on developing personal style, experimenting with new techniques, and understanding industry standards. Contextual Studies 2 deepens critical engagement with contemporary and historical themes, supporting both practice and theory. Students also participate in live briefs and collaborative projects, while Professional Life 2 emphasizes reflective development and applied skills, including leadership, creative problem-solving, and professional communication.The final year is centered on independence, professional readiness, and public engagement. Practice 3 and the Independent Major Project modules allow students to define and pursue a personal creative agenda, culminating in the public degree showcase. Students choose between two research pathways: the Extended Research Project or the Graphic Design, Illustration and Animation group research project, both designed to critically contextualize their creative work. Professional Life 3 prepares students for industry or further study by enhancing career strategies, mentoring skills, and engagement with real-world briefs and competitions.Overall, the course combines artistic exploration, technical proficiency, and professional development, producing graduates who are creatively confident, technically skilled, and career-ready.
