COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Graphic Design program offers a comprehensive and structured journey that nurtures creativity, critical thinking, and professional readiness. In Year 1, students develop a strong foundation through six core modules that introduce essential skills in creative practice, theoretical understanding, and technical applications. Modules like Practice 1 and Contextual Studies foster a hands-on and conceptual approach, while Research into Practice and Experimentation modules encourage creative risk-taking and exploration. The Professional Life module focuses on self-awareness and transferable workplace skills essential for career development. In Year 2, the curriculum deepens students’ critical engagement with contemporary design, art theory, and professional practices. Advanced workshops, industry briefs, and collaborative projects allow students to refine their style, build confidence, and prepare for real-world applications. Practice modules continue to push students toward developing a unique voice, while Contextual Studies and Research into Practice challenge them to situate their work in a wider intellectual and societal context. Year 3 places students in leadership roles through live projects and professional mentoring, encouraging them to manage collaborative work while mentoring peers. Students participate in prestigious design competitions and engage in projects that reflect personal direction and industry standards. The year culminates in the Independent Major Project, developed in two parts, where students conceptualise, create, and publicly exhibit their work. This experience solidifies their readiness for a professional design career or postgraduate study, ensuring they graduate with a strong portfolio, critical insight, and confidence in their creative identity.
