COURSE CURRICULUM

A fine art degree offers an immersive and evolving journey through creative practice, critical theory, and professional development. In the first year, students are introduced to a wide range of disciplines and techniques, from painting and sculpture to video, photography, and digital media. Elective workshops allow exploration of different mediums, while contextual studies support an understanding of historical and contemporary art. Students develop foundational skills through modules like Practice 1 and Experimentation and Application, where creativity, research, and experimentation are emphasized. By participating in critiques and presentations, students learn to reflect on their work and begin to manage their own creative process.The second year focuses on further developing artistic identity and technical proficiency. Modules such as Advanced Practice and Contextual Studies 2 deepen students' understanding of theory in relation to their own work, while promoting critical thinking and independent research. Workshops, live projects, and exhibitions support creative exploration and collaboration. Professional Life modules emphasize personal development, emotional intelligence, and real-world skills needed for creative careers, while encouraging engagement with external opportunities and industry knowledge.In the third and final year, students are supported to define their own practice and direction. Through self-directed projects and advanced research, they critically examine their role as contemporary artists. The Practice 3 and Independent Major Project modules guide them in refining their body of work for the degree showcase. Depending on their goals, students can pursue different research paths, including group exhibitions or extended written projects. Alongside creative output, professional life modules prepare students for careers in the arts, with a focus on presentation, resilience, and practical skills. By the end of the degree, students emerge as independent practitioners, ready to contribute meaningfully to the contemporary art world or pursue further study.
