COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Commercial Photography degree offers a comprehensive program that prepares students for diverse careers in commercial photography, covering sectors such as fashion, editorial, beauty, product, and architectural photography. This course is designed to equip students with both creative and business skills, essential for success in the competitive photography industry. In the first year, students focus on foundational techniques and theoretical knowledge, gaining skills in areas such as visual storytelling, experimentation, and research. Modules like Contextual Studies 1 and Practice 1 ensure that students are well-versed in both the historical and contemporary aspects of photography, while also encouraging personal creative development. By the second year, students refine their technical abilities and conceptual thinking, working on live briefs and industry collaborations. The Advanced Experimentation and Applications module introduces more sophisticated techniques, preparing students for real-world challenges. Students are also introduced to the business side of the industry through Professional Life 2, where they develop key skills like emotional intelligence and resilience. In the final year, students focus on independent projects, building a personal portfolio for their degree showcase. Practice 3 allows them to experiment with new ideas, while the Research into Practice 3 module sharpens their ability to link theory and practice in professional contexts. Additionally, students have the opportunity to apply for internships, enter prestigious competitions like the D\&AD New Blood Awards, and work on live industry briefs to boost employability.
