COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Acting for Stage and Screen degree is a rigorous, practice-led program designed to develop confident, versatile, and industry-ready actors through intensive training over three years. In Year 1, students establish a foundation in acting for both stage and screen, focusing on performance fundamentals, embodied movement, camera technique, and professional standards. They participate in multidisciplinary projects, exploring imaginative processes and character work, while the Mental Wealth module enhances emotional intelligence and collaboration skills through reflective practices and short film creation with film students. In Year 2, the course expands into more experimental and collaborative work. Students refine their acting technique through laboratory-style modules, covering naturalism, combat, and physical theatre. They also learn the basics of screenwriting and produce their own scripts. Acting techniques for comedy and screen genres are introduced alongside real-world performance opportunities through devised theatre and outreach projects. Optional modules offer diverse pathways, such as site-specific performance, production roles, or short film creation. Year 3 focuses on individual specialism and professional preparation. Students complete two major public performance projects and produce self-directed research projects that reflect their personal artistic vision. Advanced acting skills are developed through genre-specific workshops, with an emphasis on self-promotion, digital presence, and casting readiness. Students produce professional showreels, participate in the Spotlight Graduate Showcase, and undertake a placement to bridge the gap between training and industry. With modules rooted in reflective practice, technical proficiency, creative collaboration, and entrepreneurial thinking, graduates are equipped with the performance, production, and professional skills necessary to thrive in both theatre and screen acting industries.
