COURSE CURRICULUM

In Term One, the "Defining Your Practice" unit encourages a broad exploration of creative techniques, helping students identify research questions and strategies to inform their ongoing studies and practice. It allows for the development of technical skills and the exploration of various research methods. The "Research Contexts" unit introduces critical research methodologies, giving students the tools to carry out independent research inquiries and deepen their understanding of practice as a process of research.In Term Two, the "Extending Your Practice" unit prepares students to not only respond to design problems but also initiate visual, design, or cultural challenges. This unit enables students to focus on a specific interest within Visual Communication, contributing to relevant discourse, building a professional online presence, and producing works such as exhibitions, publications, or commissions. The "Professional Contexts" unit engages students with real-world professional environments, offering opportunities and projects developed with partner organizations. Students will work on group projects and individual research to establish their professional identity and engage in developing a creative business plan, funding application, or pitch for professional audiences.In Term Three, the "Major Project" unit offers students the opportunity to undertake an in-depth, critically informed research inquiry. Students will define their practice through their own work, considering how it relates to industry standards, professional contexts, collaborators, and audiences. This culminating unit will result in a substantial body of work that reflects the student's growth and the development of their creative practice.
