COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first term, the focus is on Exploratory Practice, where students develop their practice as a means of inquiry. This involves investigating various skills, techniques, and ideas to critically analyze and interrogate different approaches to practice. The Research Contexts unit introduces students to critical research methodologies, which they will apply in their independent research inquiries, allowing them to explore and understand the design and construction of their practice. In the second term, the Reflective Practice unit encourages students to engage in rigorous self-critique to further progress their independent practice. Students delve deeper into their research and practice, beginning to construct a specific Major Project proposal. This term also emphasizes preparing for the professional realization of ideas, considering modes of display, audience, and proper documentation of their work. The Professional Contexts unit helps students connect with professional environments through opportunities and projects developed with partner organizations. Through both group work and individual research, students identify their position within their chosen subject areas, developing a creative business plan, funding application, or pitch to professional audiences.The final term culminates in the Major Project, where students undertake a sustained, in-depth research inquiry. This project allows them to define their practice through their own work while understanding how it relates to industries, professional contexts, collaborators, and audiences. The Major Project is a significant body of work that represents the culmination of their studies and critical exploration of their chosen practice.
