COURSE CURRICULUM

In Term 1, students begin with Launch, a week designed to help them connect with peers and start collaborative work. The Thinking, Prototyping, and Practice unit focuses on examining games and interactive narratives across 2D, 3D, AI, VR, and AR, encouraging students to view their work through visual narrative, design principles, and audience considerations. The unit challenges students to explore the social, economic, political, and cultural contexts within the games industry. Games Research and Professional Contexts 1 provides students with analytical tools to assess games and gameplay, combining theoretical research methods and industry practices. Students also gain insights from industry professionals on best practices for evaluating games.In Term 2, Opportunity Week gives students the chance to collaborate and replicate industry practices. The Exploration and Development unit deepens students' understanding of game arts and aligned industries by encouraging research into areas of personal interest and specialization. This unit focuses on identifying current and future technologies, solving industry-related problems, and prototyping solutions. Games Research and Professional Contexts 2 builds on the prior research skills, offering a deeper look into game form, content, and the role of players. This unit includes a focus on player cultures and identities framed by equality, diversity, and inclusion. Students also work on a collaborative professional practice group project, often involving an industry brief.Term 3 culminates in the Games Arts Major Project, where students showcase their acquired skills and knowledge. They will conduct in-depth research to inform their work, focusing on social and cultural understanding while producing a visual outcome aligned with contemporary industry practices. The project encourages collaboration, both individually and across disciplines, with an emphasis on critical research and industry standards in the development process.
