COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first term, students focus on consolidating their animation skills through Animation Studio 1, where they use industry-standard techniques across pre-production, production, and post-production to create a one-minute animated film with sound. The unit allows for personal exploration, helping students develop a unique approach to animation. Animation Research & Professional Contexts 1 enables students to develop a showreel through test animations while fostering critical and analytical thinking. It blends practical and theoretical learning, with workshops that support independent study and culminate in a critical reflection. In the second term, Animation Studio 2 builds on previous pre-production work and prepares students for their Animation Major Project, a substantial personal project that will be developed in the next term. Animation Research and Professional Contexts 2 involves working on industry briefs from external organizations such as companies, NGOs, and cultural institutions, or collaborating with independent creatives. Students either work individually or in small production teams, reflecting industry practices. The third term focuses on the Animation Major Project, where students use their accumulated knowledge and skills to produce a self-directed project or one in collaboration with a client. This project is accompanied by a critical investigation or portfolio of work, situating the practice in professional and theoretical contexts. Students also develop an exhibition and distribution plan for their project, preparing them for real-world animation production and dissemination.
