COURSE CURRICULUM

The program is structured across three years, each focusing on building design skills, critical thinking, and professional readiness. In Year One, the launch week fosters community-building through peer bonding, research trips, and design exercises. Students explore graphic experimentation, emphasizing communication through design, and study typography, creative methodologies, and visual communication principles. The curriculum also includes Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion, encouraging critical reflection on socio-political issues, and Opportunity Week, a Hackathon simulating industry practice. Students also delve into Design Thinking, learning to apply graphic principles across various outcomes, and Design, Creativity, and Innovation, addressing real-world social and cultural challenges. The year concludes with Proclamation, where students present their work to the public.In Year Two, students continue with the launch week, reinforcing community ties. They explore multimodal approaches to design, relating design principles to professional practice, and develop a deeper understanding of the responsibility of designers through The Conscious Practitioner. They also focus on typography in large text contexts and editorial design with Typographic Studies 2.0. Opportunity Week is repeated, offering live briefs for industry collaboration. Students also learn to design for screens and digital media and prepare for post-graduation with units on Building on Identity and Working in the Creative Industries. Elective options like Impact 2 allow further specialization.In Year Three, the focus shifts to industry-driven experiences, including participation in industry-led competitions. Students engage in Contextual Research, critically exploring themes that inform their design practice. The year culminates in the Final Major Project, where students apply their accumulated knowledge to produce a self-directed, in-depth design project.
