COURSE CURRICULUM

The core modules include Introduction to Games Arts 1, where students explore 2D and 3D design fundamentals, keeping a sketchbook and design document. Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion allows students to explore these concepts in relation to creative practice. In Board Game Design, students work in teams to prototype and build a board game, focusing on mechanics, design, and presentation. Opportunity Week offers hands-on activities like Games Jams and study trips to festivals, museums, and studios. In Introduction to Games Arts 2, students refine their traditional and digital art skills. The Client Brief challenges students to work on a real-world project, enhancing collaboration and presentation abilities. Interactive Narratives covers narrative design, focusing on plot, character, and dialogue. The ATOM Activities module provides additional learning opportunities across various disciplines. The PLE Digital Outcome 1 encourages students to document their digital presence and engage with online platforms like blogs and social media.In the second year, students participate in another Launch Week with similar activities. Games Art Workflows builds on Year 1 skills and focuses on professional aspects of game art. The Conscious Practitioner explores global perspectives on creative practice, examining how culture, history, and politics shape artistic work. Games Art Pathway offers in-depth exploration of either Concept Art or 3D Art. The Industry Brief allows students to apply their skills to an industry project, enhancing their communication and presentation skills. Elective modules like Immersive Media, Digital Storytelling, and Motion Capture Technologies allow students to specialize in areas of interest.In the third year, the Final Major Project begins with the Pre-Production stage, where students develop their project proposal, defining the concept, scope, audience, and purpose. The Critical and Conceptual Influences unit involves research and writing that supports the final project. Professional Practice helps students create promotional materials to showcase their strengths and work. The Final Major Project: Production stage involves bringing the project to life, demonstrating skills and knowledge gained throughout the course. This final project serves as the foundation for students' graduate portfolios.
