COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year One, the course begins with the Launch week, which prepares you for university learning through a combination of workshops that refresh and audit your existing skills. The Real unit introduces core subject-specific themes through the lens of social, political, and economic circumstances. The Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity module helps you explore how your social identity informs your creative practices. The Photography elective unit is open to Fine Art and Digital Arts students, offering multiple photography skills to build upon your existing expertise. The Body unit explores genres and methodologies related to the human body, enhancing both your research skills and creative practice. The Professional Identities unit helps you navigate relevant professional contexts, while the Learning Enhancement module provides subject-specific workshops and training. ATOM Activities expand your interdisciplinary exposure across UCA, and the PLE Digital Outcomes unit focuses on building your presence on digital media platforms.In Year Two, the Launch week prepares you for the upcoming term, which includes the Spatial Practices unit, where you explore the relationship between art and space, ideologies, and power. The Conscious Practitioner module focuses on inclusion, exclusion, and diversity in creative practices, while the Conceptual Disciplinary Elective allows you to shape your learning journey through an interdisciplinary, research-driven approach. The Expanded Practices unit encourages you to explore fine art across multiple mediums. Professional Development focuses on building the necessary skills to engage confidently with professional contexts, and the Professional Experience unit offers external-facing contexts to apply your practice. ATOM Activities and PLE Digital Outcome continue from Year One to enhance your learning.In Year Three, the Launch week encourages reflection on your independent learning journey and preparing a proposal for the next unit. The Final Major Project - Development allows you to experiment with creative and technical approaches. The Critical Contexts module enables you to contextualize your research within interdisciplinary approaches. The Opportunity week helps refine your final major project, and in the Final Major Project: Realisation, you will complete your body of work and professional exit plan, preparing for the transition to professional or postgraduate environments.
