COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year, students begin by engaging in interdisciplinary workshops focused on idea generation, creative practice, and development. They explore the fundamentals of animation through both traditional and contemporary techniques, while also developing drawing skills to understand movement. The year also covers key concepts like equality, diversity, and inclusion in creative spaces, as well as how to present and curate work, with a focus on moving image exhibitions. Key projects include a 24-hour film challenge, where students rapidly create and produce a short film in teams, and a group film project that emphasizes teamwork and the pre-production process. Additionally, students are introduced to industry practices through tailored seminars, and build their personal portfolios to showcase their work. The year concludes with ATOM activities for interdisciplinary exposure and a digital record of their learning journey. In the second year, students further their animation skills by producing a short film for an international festival and exploring diversity and inclusion in creative practice. They also take part in a Game Jam event, where they design a playable video game in a short time frame. Research and reflection are key, as students contextualize their work and prepare a statement of intent for their final year project. Collaboration is a significant aspect of the year, as students work on client briefs and are given opportunities to engage in electives such as cinematography, motion capture, and screenwriting. In the third year, the focus shifts to professional practice, with an emphasis on innovation in production and exhibition. Students develop their final projects, with extensive pre-production and pitching work, before completing a dissertation and their graduate film, which represents the culmination of their studies and prepares them for future career opportunities in the creative industries.
