COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 1, you will engage in a range of core units designed to lay a strong foundation for your journey as a performer. Launch Week introduces essential studio etiquette, vocal workouts, and movement exercises, leading to an informal work-sharing session. Acting Skills 1 focuses on key techniques, including physical awareness, voice work, text analysis, and improvisation. The Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion unit explores the role of social identities in creative practice, while Professional Development 1 begins preparing you for the industry, introducing you to casting agents, actors, and directors. During Opportunity Week, you will learn about intimacy practices and non-armed stage combat. You’ll also perform in 20th & 21st Century Theatre, rehearsing and performing a live production inspired by the period. Screen Acting covers the basics of film acting, focusing on conveying emotion and storytelling through non-dialogue film creation. The Individual Performance Project encourages you to create a solo performance, combining various elements such as monologues, storytelling, or movement. ATOM Activities offer interdisciplinary learning opportunities, while the PLE Digital Outcome unit allows you to reflect on your academic and creative progress throughout the year.In Year 2, your learning continues with Launch Week, where you help mentor new students. The Elizabethan & Jacobean Theatre unit invites you to rehearse and perform in a live period production. The Conscious Practitioner unit focuses on diversity and inclusion in creative practice. Acting Skills 2 advances your acting techniques, including screen and voice acting, while Opportunity Week allows you to experiment with movement for camera and intimacy coordination. Professional Development 2 helps you prepare for auditions, and ATOM Activities extend your interdisciplinary learning. The PLE Digital Outcome unit encourages professional networking. Elective units in Year 2 offer opportunities in acting through song, sustainable media, cinematography, and more.In Year 3, the core units include Launch Week, where you mentor Year 1 and 2 students. Screen Performance develops your film acting skills, while Live Performance culminates in your final directed performance. Opportunity Week focuses on networking and industry insights. The Final Major Project – Practice as Research is your capstone, requiring you to conduct research and create a performance project exploring a chosen topic. This includes writing an essay, developing a performance, and participating in a viva voce to reflect on your research and practice.
