COURSE CURRICULUM

The Paramedic Science BSc (Hons) degree provides a comprehensive education designed to prepare students for professional practice as registered paramedics. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through modules such as Fundamental Skills in Paramedic Practice, Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology for the Paramedic, and Paramedic as the Reflective Practitioner, alongside studying the social determinants of health and professional development in Leading Self. This initial stage ensures students gain the essential clinical, theoretical, and reflective skills required for safe and effective paramedic practice. In the second year, learning progresses to more advanced clinical and professional competencies, with modules including Developing Paramedic Skills: Leading Others, Ethical and Clinical Decision Making, Evidence-informed Practice, Health Across the Life Course, and Pharmacology and Pharmacokinetics, equipping students with the knowledge to manage increasingly complex patient scenarios and lead care delivery in diverse settings. The final year focuses on advanced paramedic practice, including modules such as Advanced Skills in Paramedic Science, Paramedic Science within an Ageing Population, Research for Health and Care Professionals, and Transition to Professional Practice: Leading Change. Throughout the program, students develop critical skills in clinical decision-making, leadership, research application, and reflective practice, preparing them for safe, evidence-based, and adaptable professional practice across a range of emergency and community healthcare environments.
