COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Mental Health and Wellbeing degree equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to support mental health across the lifespan, preparing them for meaningful careers in education, social care, housing, and community services. In the first year, students gain a strong foundation in mental health and wellbeing, exploring psychological principles, safeguarding, inclusion, and ethical practice, while also developing professional, personal, and academic skills. The second year builds on this foundation by addressing critical issues such as challenging inequality, driving sustainable change, and delivering community-based mental health services. Students also develop practical skills in professional practice, inclusive learning, and digital wellbeing, ensuring they are prepared for contemporary, technology-driven contexts. In the final year, students focus on advanced safeguarding, independent advocacy, and leadership in wellbeing settings, alongside evidence-based research and enquiry projects. Optional modules allow specialisation in adult or children and young people’s mental health, enabling students to tailor their studies to specific career pathways. Throughout the degree, students engage with practical placements and experiential learning opportunities, consolidating theoretical knowledge with real-world application. By combining academic study, professional practice, and leadership development, the program prepares graduates to become confident, skilled, and compassionate practitioners, ready to make a positive impact on the mental health and wellbeing of individuals and communities.
