COURSE CURRICULUM

The Health and Social Care BSc (Hons) degree provides students with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience needed to succeed in a wide range of health and social care roles. In the first year, students gain a foundation in the principles of health and social care, exploring key areas such as the sociology of health, lifespan psychology, communication skills, safeguarding, and academic skills, ensuring a strong base for professional practice. In the second year, the focus shifts to applied knowledge and professional development, including modules on advocacy, coproduction, and empowerment, promoting health and wellbeing, mentoring and coaching, and developing research skills. Students can also choose optional modules to explore areas such as managing acute and chronic conditions, substance misuse, or supporting individuals and families, allowing them to tailor their studies to their interests. In the final year, students consolidate their learning with modules in leadership in health and social care, counselling and guidance skills, and a research project, alongside optional modules such as criminology and offender management, neurodiversity, and mental health. The combination of theoretical learning, applied practice, and optional specialisms equips graduates to deliver high-quality, person-centred care, pursue further postgraduate study, or progress into careers in family support, mental health, social work, counselling, or community-based roles.
