COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mechanical Engineering BEng (Hons) degree offers a structured and progressive curriculum designed to equip students with the essential knowledge and practical skills required for a successful engineering career. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in engineering mathematics, mechanical principles, CAD design, software applications, pneumatics and hydraulics, and materials science and engineering, providing the core technical understanding necessary for more advanced study. The second year expands this knowledge into systems and control principles, thermofluid mechanics, renewable energy and sustainability, smart manufacturing, virtual engineering and simulation, and further mathematics, enabling students to engage with modern engineering challenges and emerging technologies. In the final year, students focus on advanced applications and professional practice through modules in Internet of Things operation and control, Industry 4.0 manufacturing, project management, an independent project, and mechanical design and optimisation, combining technical expertise with problem-solving, analytical thinking, and project leadership skills. Throughout the degree, students gain hands-on experience with industry-standard tools, simulation software, and real-world engineering projects, preparing them to meet the demands of sectors such as aerospace, automotive, renewable energy, and advanced manufacturing. The program balances theoretical understanding with practical application, ensuring graduates are equipped to innovate, design, and manage complex engineering systems in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
