COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sports Coaching and Education BSc (Hons) degree provides a comprehensive and interdisciplinary education, combining theory, practical skills, and professional development to prepare students for careers in sports, education, and community engagement. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge in academic practice, coaching principles, childhood and youth development, and safeguarding, while exploring innovative pedagogical strategies and the social impact of sports. The second year focuses on applied learning, including teaching practical sports, research methods, personal and professional development, curriculum design, sports psychology, team dynamics, and addressing health and social inequalities. Students gain hands-on experience and develop the skills needed to design and deliver effective coaching and educational programs for diverse populations. The third year emphasizes advanced topics such as inclusive coaching for special populations, work-based learning, current trends in sport education, equity and advocacy, and independent project work, allowing students to consolidate their knowledge and apply it in real-world contexts. Across all three years, the course integrates theoretical understanding with practical application, preparing students to support learners, athletes, and communities effectively. Graduates leave with the expertise, confidence, and versatility to pursue careers in teaching, sports development, community coaching, mentorship, and other roles where education, sport, and personal development intersect.
