COURSE CURRICULUM

The accelerated Primary Education Studies degree is structured over two years, offering a comprehensive exploration of how children learn and develop, and how primary education has evolved both in the UK and globally. In the first year, students build a strong foundation with modules such as Introduction to Education Studies, The Developing Learner 1, and Early Learning and the Primary Curriculum, alongside studies in the History of Education, Theories of Reflective Practice, and Ideology and Sociology in Primary Education. These modules provide insight into neurological, physical, and cognitive development while encouraging reflective and analytical approaches to teaching and learning. Students also examine the learning environment to understand how it shapes children’s educational experiences. In the second year, the focus shifts to more advanced concepts, including The Developing Learner 2, which covers cognition, language, and behaviour, and Developing Professional Practice in Education. Additional modules address philosophy, ethics, and values in primary education, inclusion, diversity, and equality in educational settings, contemporary issues, international perspectives, and research in education. The program combines theoretical study with practical applications, equipping students with the knowledge, critical thinking skills, and professional competencies needed to pursue teaching careers, work in educational settings, or progress to postgraduate teacher training and related educational professions.
