COURSE CURRICULUM

The taught element of the Computer Science MSc is delivered over the first two semesters, providing students with a strong foundation in core computing skills while allowing for personal specialisation through option modules. As part of the program, students study five core modules, including Programming and Data Structures, Applied Artificial Intelligence, Computer Systems Security, New Horizons in Computer Science, and the Final Project, which provides an opportunity to apply their learning to a substantial independent piece of work. In addition, students select two option modules to focus on areas of particular interest, such as UXD Industrial Placement, Research, Web Development, Data Management, Product and Project Management, or Interface and Information Design, though the availability of options may vary depending on timetabling and staff resources. The third semester is dedicated to the major project, enabling students to develop practical, research, or industry-focused work that consolidates their learning and demonstrates their expertise. Full-time students starting in September also have the option to undertake a placement or an additional research year, providing further opportunities for real-world experience and professional development. Overall, the program combines rigorous academic learning with practical application, preparing graduates for careers in computing, technology, and related industries.
