COURSE CURRICULUM

The Water and Environmental Management MSc provides a comprehensive program designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary for effective environmental stewardship and water resource management. Core modules focus on key aspects such as hydrology and pollutant transport, water quality assessment and management, water recycling technologies, and research skills culminating in a dissertation. These modules ensure that students gain both theoretical understanding and practical expertise, enabling them to design, conduct, and analyse research studies in environmental and water management contexts. Students can also tailor their learning through a wide range of option modules, which may include independent study, geographical information systems, environmental impact assessment, applied taxonomy for conservation, microbiology, ecotoxicology, environmental remediation, and planning theory. Additional modules focus on social and policy dimensions of environmental management, such as contested natures, social justice, sustainable urbanism, and communicating ecological issues, allowing students to engage with the broader societal and regulatory contexts of environmental practice. The program integrates practical learning opportunities through placements supported by the Green Growth Platform, enabling students to apply their knowledge in real-world settings. Graduates of the course are prepared for careers in environmental consultancy, water and resource management, policy development, and research, with the skills to contribute to sustainable environmental solutions at both national and international levels.
