COURSE CURRICULUM

Specialist Community Practitioner MSc is designed to develop advanced clinical competence, leadership capability, and critical thinking for contemporary community and primary healthcare practice. Core modules include Independent Prescribing, which develops safe, effective, and evidence-based prescribing practice; Integrated Care, focusing on coordinated, person-centred services across health and social care systems; and Leading Service Improvement, which equips students with the skills to evaluate and enhance the quality and safety of care. Advanced Health Assessment (Adult) strengthens clinical assessment and diagnostic decision-making, while Leading Specialist Practice supports the development of professional leadership within complex community settings. The Dissertation module enables students to undertake independent, practice-focused research that contributes to service development and evidence-based care. A range of optional modules is available for students with Recognition of Prior Learning, allowing further tailoring of the program to individual expertise and career goals. Indicative options include Health Professional as an Educator, Respiratory Care at Level 7, A Critical Approach to Community Public Health, and Child Advanced Physical Assessment, Pathophysiology and Clinical Decision-Making at Level 7. Optional modules are subject to timetabling and staff availability, ensuring flexibility while maintaining academic and professional standards.
