COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) combines core modules with optional specialisations to provide a comprehensive understanding of spatial data analysis and its application to environmental and geographical challenges. Core modules include Key Concepts in Environmental Assessment and Management, Applications in GIS, Applied Remote Sensing, and the Masters Research Skills and Dissertation, which equip students with foundational knowledge, technical skills, and research expertise. These modules focus on developing proficiency in GIS software, remote sensing techniques, spatial analysis, and environmental assessment, while supporting students in completing an in-depth research project. In addition to the core modules, students can choose from a wide range of option modules to tailor their learning to their interests and career goals. Options include Communicating Issues in Ecology and Conservation, Hydrology and Pollutant Transport, Masters Independent Study, Introduction to Geographical Information Systems, Planning Theory and Practice, Sustainable Urbanism in Coastal Communities, Applied Taxonomy for Conservation, Water Quality Assessment and Management, Microbiology, Ecotoxicology and Environmental Remediation, Environment Placement Module supported by the Green Growth Platform, and Environmental Impact Assessment. This flexible approach allows students to develop specialised knowledge in areas such as urban planning, environmental monitoring, sustainability, and conservation.
