COURSE CURRICULUM

This MSc program provides students with comprehensive research training in the social sciences, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to undertake advanced, independent research across disciplines such as psychology, sociology, criminology, politics, social policy, psychotherapy, counselling, and social work. Core modules focus on philosophies of research, research methods in the social sciences, and the MRes research project, enabling students to develop a strong theoretical foundation alongside practical experience in designing, conducting, and evaluating research. The program also offers option modules, including advanced research cultures, mixed methods in social research, and research practice, allowing students to tailor their learning to specific methodological interests and career aspirations. Through engagement with both qualitative and quantitative approaches, students acquire expertise in data collection, analysis, interpretation, and the ethical considerations central to social research. The course emphasizes critical thinking, interdisciplinary collaboration, and applied research skills, preparing graduates for careers in academia, industry, public services, and non-governmental organisations.
