COURSE CURRICULUM

The Riverine and Estuarine Processes MRes equips students with advanced knowledge and practical skills to understand and manage complex aquatic environments. The core modules, including Water Quality Assessment and Management, Hydrology and Pollutant Transport, and the MRes Research Project, provide a solid foundation in analyzing water systems, monitoring pollutants, and evaluating the physical, chemical, and ecological aspects of riverine and estuarine processes. Students gain hands-on experience in fieldwork, laboratory analysis, and data interpretation, enhancing their ability to assess environmental risks and develop evidence-based management strategies. The program also allows students to select from a range of optional modules, such as Introduction to Geographical Information Systems, Applications in GIS, Applied Remote Sensing, Sustainable Urbanism in Coastal Communities, Environmental Impact Assessment, and Policy and Implementation in Town Planning. These options enable learners to tailor their studies to specific interests, including spatial analysis, urban planning, conservation, and sustainability. By combining theoretical understanding with applied research, the course prepares graduates to work effectively in environmental consultancy, government agencies, and research institutions. Emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches ensures that students can address contemporary challenges in water management, including climate change, urbanization, and increasing human impacts on riverine and estuarine systems, contributing to their sustainable management and resilience.
