COURSE CURRICULUM

The Humanities MRes curriculum provides a structured and flexible framework for developing advanced research skills across multiple disciplines. Core modules such as Research Methods and Philosophies of Research equip students with essential methodological and theoretical foundations for conducting rigorous academic inquiry. The MRes Research Project allows students to design and complete an independent piece of research under expert supervision, demonstrating originality and critical engagement with their chosen field. A wide range of option modules enables students to tailor the course to their specific interests, exploring topics such as globalisation, human rights, storytelling, material culture, and publishing. Modules like Globalisation and Global Politics and Protecting Human Rights and Building Peace address contemporary global challenges, while options such as Exploring Objects, Mediating Objects, and Caring for Collections and their Users focus on material and visual culture. Creative and narrative-focused modules, including Practices of Storytelling and Visual Narratives, encourage innovative approaches to research presentation and interpretation. This combination of theoretical study, practical research experience, and interdisciplinary exploration prepares students for further doctoral research or careers in academia, cultural institutions, publishing, and related fields where strong analytical and research competencies are essential.
