COURSE CURRICULUM

The Health Research MRes curriculum provides a comprehensive foundation in advanced research methodologies and ethical practice, preparing students for independent and applied research in healthcare settings. The Quantitative Research Methods module develops skills in statistical analysis, experimental design, and data interpretation, enabling students to evaluate and apply numerical data in evidence-based practice. Qualitative Research focuses on exploring human experiences, behaviours, and social contexts through interviews, observations, and thematic analysis, helping students understand the value of qualitative inquiry in health studies. The Mixed Methods Research module integrates both quantitative and qualitative approaches, teaching how to design and conduct studies that draw on the strengths of multiple methodologies. Research Ethics and Integrity in Health and Social Care addresses the ethical considerations, governance processes, and professional responsibilities associated with conducting health research. The program culminates in the Dissertation, where students undertake an independent research project under expert supervision, applying the theories, techniques, and ethical standards learned throughout the course. This combination of modules equips graduates with the critical, analytical, and methodological expertise needed for leadership roles in research or progression to doctoral-level studies, while fostering a deep understanding of how rigorous, ethical research contributes to improving health outcomes and policy development.
